Build a buffer for uneven income
Build a buffer for uneven income
A small reserve can help you manage irregular expenses. Set a goal based on your circumstances and use a suitable authorised provider.
Choose one practical need
Start with a predictable expense or a common disruption: school materials, repairs, transport or a quiet trading week. Write the amount and date. Keep this separate from money needed for immediate essentials and existing obligations.
Break the goal into affordable steps
Illustration only: MWK 60,000 needed in six months means setting aside MWK 10,000 a month if there is no interest and the money is not withdrawn. If this does not fit your budget, change the amount, timing or spending plan. Do not borrow to meet an arbitrary savings target.
Choose where to keep the reserve
Consider the provider’s authorisation, access arrangements, withdrawal charges and account security. Understand whether your money is a deposit, investment or group contribution and what protection applies. This guide does not offer a KFC savings account or imply that KFC accepts deposits.
Review and replenish
Record each amount set aside and every withdrawal. When you use the buffer, decide what can reasonably be replaced after essentials. Review the target when household size, income or prices change. For seasonal business income, plan the quiet months before spending the busy-season surplus.
Put it into practice
Write one reserve goal, the deadline and an amount you can put aside without creating a shortfall in essentials.
Take the next step with clarity
Lending is subject to eligibility, assessment and agreed terms. An enquiry is not a loan approval.
