Protect yourself when using digital money

Protect yourself when using digital money

Take time to check a request before sharing information or making a payment. A convincing logo or familiar name does not prove who is contacting you.

Keep secret codes private

Do not share a PIN, password or one-time code with someone who contacts you. Avoid entering credentials after following an unexpected message. Open the provider’s known app or use a contact independently checked against official information.

Verify the recipient and reason

Before paying, check the account name, number, amount and purpose. Treat unexpected requests to change payment details as a reason to verify separately. Be cautious about pressure to pay an advance fee to a personal number to release a promised loan. Confirm all fees against a written offer and an authorised channel.

Protect the device you use

Use a screen lock and keep your device and trusted apps updated. Log out of shared devices. Do not leave identity documents or financial records in a public browser or shared download folder. Report loss or suspicious account activity promptly through your provider’s verified route.

Act quickly after a suspected scam

Contact the affected provider through a verified channel and explain the transaction or exposure. Preserve messages, receipts, times and reference numbers. Follow its process for securing access and disputing transactions. Report the incident to the appropriate authorities where relevant; do not pay someone promising a guaranteed recovery.

Put it into practice

Write down the verified support route for each provider you use. Check one recent payment receipt against your own records.

Take the next step with clarity

Lending is subject to eligibility, assessment and agreed terms. An enquiry is not a loan approval.
